What is the SAFFRON Sexual Assault Centre?

SAFFRON Sexual Assault Centre’s mandate is to provide counselling services to anyone who has suffered from sexual assault, abuse and sexual violence, as well as those who have been affected by sexual assault (e.g. support persons, family members, etc., of someone who has experienced sexual assault) and also to provide proactive education regarding sexual assault, abuse and sexual violence to all individuals and to change attitudes, beliefs and myths surrounding sexual assault.

SAFFRON Sexual Assault Centre’s main mission is to support the healing and empowerment of those who have been affected by sexual assault, abuse and sexual violence; and to promote change in attitudes, beliefs and social norms.

SAFFRON Centre Offers Counselling Programs

The SAFFRON Sexual Assault Centre offers counselling services to any who is a victim of sexual trauma, abuse, or violence. Their counselling program are provided to victims on a “sliding fee scale” based on your income and workplace health care benefits. There are no maximum number of sessions, SAFFRON will be there for you as long as you need.

One-on-One Therapy

SAFFRON Centre provides therapeutic one-to-one services to victims of trauma, abuse and sexual violence. The therapists provide services in many different methods.

Play Therapy

In play therapy, a child is able to express or “play out” their feelings and problems just as an adult does in talk therapy. However, children may not have the words to describe what they are feeling or processing, so instead they choose objects, symbols, or types of play to express their difficulties and worries and work through particular problems. The therapists at SAFFRON are trained to observe and facilitate the therapy process. The main goal is to help a child regain their former level of functioning, enhance self-esteem, and build the child’s coping resources.

Art Therapy

Art therapy involves the use of creative techniques to help people express themselves artistically and examine the psychological and emotional undertones in their art.

Group Therapy

There are a few different types of group therapies at SAFFRON. There are many benefits to group therapy including it helps members find their voice, members take turns giving and receiving support, helps reduce isolation and improves confidence.

How Ahlstrom Wright is Helping Build a Community for Sexual Assualt Survivors

Ahlstrom Wright is working with the Saffron Centre to build a community of practice for survivors of sexual violence. At Ahlstrom Wright, we specifically support the Sexual Assault Centre of Edmonton (SACE). SACE provides specialized, trauma-informed services at no fee. How You Can Get Involved

Building a community for survivors of sexual violence is a multi-part effort that includes involvement and participation from the community, local businesses, the Alberta Association of Sexual Assault Services (AASAS), the Calgary Communities Against Sexual Abuse (CCASA), and the Sexual Assault Centre of Edmonton (SACE).

Together we can support survivors in our community and provide a path to safety and security.
